On March 3rd, 1931 Governor Percival P. Baxter donates all of Baxter State Park's land with the condition it be kept forever wild. With nearly 250,000 acres of wilderness and the shadow of Maine's highest peak, Mount Katahdin, the park is a refuge for wildlife and people alike. Many of the views within the park rival most any other you would see in Maine, but what makes Maine unique is the diversity of its beauty. From the rocky coastline, to the nearly 17 million acres of forest land, to the wild waterways of the Allagash, look in any direction and you will see the diversity of this state's beauty.
